Currently Bernalillo Country offers two water conservation incentive programs available to Sandia Heights residence:
High Efficiency Toilet Retrofit Program – To participate in the High-Efficiency-Toilet Retrofit program, residents must receive a home water use survey. The home water use survey is conducted by Bernalillo County staff and includes verification of toilet eligibility, home leak analysis, estimation of current water use, and installation of low-flow shower heads and faucet aerators. Existing toilets must be 3.5 or 5 gallon per flush toilet manufactured before 1994. If it is determined that your property has toilets that are eligible to be replaced, a plumber will be selected to install up to two 1.28 gallons per flush High Efficiency Toilets.
Sandia Heights currently has 325 participants in this program!
Rain Barrel Program – Property owners in unincorporated areas who are not customers of the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority (ABCWUA) may qualify to receive one rain barrel per occupied address. To participate and qualify for the Rain Barrel Program, sign up for a Home Water Conservation Survey. Bernalillo County will verify that there is a way for the rain barrel to be utilized on the site and you will pay only $40 for a 100 gallon rain barrel (the rain barrel retails for over $200!). Bernalillo County will also provide water saving tips for the outdoors and can provide low-flow aerators and shower heads for inside your home.
Sandia Heights currently has 237 participants in this program!
For applications and more information call Bernalillo County at 848-1500 or visit their website at www.bernco.gov/water.

Sandia Heights Services is proud to present Tom Teachout with the 2014 Good Samaritan Award. Tom has served as Secretary/Treasurer for the Primrose Pointe HOA for the last five years. He has been instrumental in many of the great road improvements in Primrose such as the installation of speed humps, the recently completed fog sealant and the repaving of the path off Lowell, between Oakland and Anaheim. This path is enjoyed by Primrose residents, those out for some exercise and also by the children attending school nearby. Tom is also actively working with Bernalillo County to get Fire Station #5 (just West of Lowell, South of Paseo) direct access to Paseo Del Norte. Currently the trucks must travel either West to Browning or East to Lowell for access to Paseo, extending their response time by 2-3 minutes.

It's been a long, hard winter for your yard. While your plants go dormant to cope with the colder weather, your sprinkler system can feel the effects of winter too. Cracks in the pipes can lead to costly leaks, and broken sprinkler heads can waste water and money. You could be losing up to 25,000 gallons of water and more than $90 over a six-month irrigation season - the cost of about 300 daffodil bulbs!
